🌍 World Tourism Day — 27th September Every Year
First celebrated: 27 September 1980 · Madrid, Spain · Organised by: UNWTO
📖 Why 27th September?
The date is not arbitrary. On 27 September 1970, the UNWTO Statutes were officially adopted — the founding document of the organisation. A decade later, on 27 September 1980, the first World Tourism Day was celebrated in Madrid, Spain to mark this anniversary.
Each year, UNWTO selects a host country and a theme that reflects the most pressing issue or opportunity facing tourism that year. The theme shapes global campaigns, events, conferences, and policy discussions across all 156 member states.
